Palestinian Authority Temporarily Suspends Al Jazeera, Citing Incitement and Law Violations
Jan 1, 2025, 07:22 PM
The Palestinian Authority (PA) has temporarily suspended the broadcast of Qatar-based Al Jazeera TV and frozen its operations and staff activities within its territories, including the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The decision, announced on January 1, 2025, by the official Palestinian news agency WAFA, accuses Al Jazeera of violating Palestinian laws by persistently broadcasting inciting material, disseminating misleading reports, provoking sedition, and interfering in internal Palestinian affairs. The PA's move follows critical coverage by Al Jazeera of Palestinian security forces' operations in Jenin. The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate also accused the network of distorted coverage and incitement. Resistance committees in Palestine condemned the PA's decision, calling it a clear infringement on freedom of expression.
