On December 24, a family was mistakenly shot at by agents of the Polícia Rodoviária Federal (PRF) on the BR-040 highway in Duque de Caxias, Rio de Janeiro. A 26-year-old woman was critically injured after being shot in the head during the incident, which occurred as the family was traveling to a Christmas dinner. Witnesses reported that over 30 shots were fired during the PRF's approach.
