President Lula Undergoes Embolization in São Paulo to Prevent Future Brain Hemorrhages

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is undergoing a second medical procedure today, December 12, at 7 am, to prevent future brain hemorrhages after emergency surgery earlier this week. The procedure, an embolization performed via catheterization, is intended to minimize the risk of future bleeding in an area under his skull that was treated during the initial surgery. According to his doctor, Roberto Kalil Filho, the procedure was planned and does not prolong his hospitalization at the Hospital Sírio-Libanês in São Paulo. The radiologist José Guilherme Caldas is conducting the operation. Vice President Geraldo Alckmin will assume some presidential duties, including leading the Economic and Social Development Council meeting, while Lula recovers.
