Edward Pettifer Among 14 Killed in Islamic State-Inspired New Orleans Terror Attack, 35 Injured
Jan 4, 2025, 02:06 AM
Edward Pettifer, a 31-year-old British citizen from Chelsea, London, was among the 14 people killed in an Islamic State-inspired terror attack in New Orleans on New Year's Day. The attack occurred when Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old Texas resident and US Army veteran, drove a pick-up truck into crowds celebrating on Bourbon Street. Jabbar was subsequently killed by police after exiting the vehicle and firing a weapon. The FBI has classified the incident as a premeditated act of terrorism, noting that an Islamic State flag was found inside the vehicle and two improvised explosive devices were discovered nearby. At least 35 others were injured, with some still receiving treatment in the ICU. Pettifer's family described him as a 'wonderful son, brother, grandson, nephew and a friend to so many,' and expressed their devastation at his death.
