According to the report, Smith's team 'stood up for the rule of law' during their investigation, and 'but for Mr. Trump's election and imminent return to the presidency, the admissible evidence was sufficient to obtain and sustain a conviction at trial.' The release of the report follows failed legal challenges by Trump to block its publication.
