U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon has allowed the release of Special Counsel Jack Smith's report on former President Donald Trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 election. The report, submitted to Congress and released early Tuesday, is 137 pages long and alleges that Trump engaged in an 'unprecedented criminal effort' to overturn his 2020 election defeat. According to the report, Smith's team 'stood up for the rule of law' during their investigation, and 'but for Mr. Trump's election and imminent return to the presidency, the admissible evidence was sufficient to obtain and sustain a conviction at trial.' The release of the report follows failed legal challenges by Trump to block its publication. The report details how Trump attempted to undermine the legitimate results of the election in order to retain power.
