Russia Hits Ukraine With 93 Missiles, 130 Drones in Energy Infrastructure Attack
Dec 14, 2024, 09:00 AM
Russia launched a large-scale missile and drone attack on Ukraine, targeting energy infrastructure across multiple regions, including Odesa, Dnipro, and Kharkiv. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the assault as one of the heaviest bombardments of the country’s energy sector since the full-scale invasion began. The attack involved 93 missiles and over 130 drones, of which Ukrainian forces reportedly shot down 58 drones and 81 missiles, while 60 drones were destroyed, 72 missed their targets, and two returned to Russia. The strikes caused significant damage to Ukraine’s power grid, leading to emergency power cuts and disruptions in energy supply. The Russian Defense Ministry stated that the attacks targeted energy facilities linked to Ukraine’s military industry and were in retaliation for Ukraine’s use of U.S.-supplied ATACMS missiles against a Russian airfield. Zelensky renewed calls for international support, including Patriot air defense systems and sanctions against Russia, to counter what he described as deliberate acts of terror. Eight people were reported injured in Kharkiv following guided bomb attacks, and damage assessments are ongoing.
