Justice Department Fires Officials from Trump Prosecution Team, Transfers Top Official, Citing Lack of Trust
Jan 27, 2025, 08:52 PM
The Department of Justice has fired more than a dozen key officials who worked on former Special Counsel Jack Smith's team that prosecuted President Donald Trump, according to reports by Fox News and confirmed by CBS News. Acting Attorney General James McHenry cited a lack of trust in the officials' ability to 'faithfully implement President Trump's agenda' as the reason for the dismissals. Additionally, the Trump administration has initiated a 'special project' to investigate prosecutors involved in the January 6 cases, according to an internal memo obtained by CNN. The DOJ is also transferring Bradley Weinsheimer, the Associate Deputy Attorney General and a top career official, out of his position.
