Venezuela Closes Colombia Border Until Monday Ahead of Maduro's Inauguration
Jan 10, 2025, 10:44 AM
Venezuela has closed its border with Colombia from 5 a.m. Friday, January 10, until 5 a.m. Monday, January 13, ahead of President Nicolás Maduro's inauguration. The closure was announced by Freddy Bernal, governor of the state of Táchira, who cited 'information about an international conspiracy to disturb the peace of Venezuelans, especially in this border area.' The Venezuelan government has placed shipping containers on the Francisco de Paula Santander International Bridge to block passage into the country. The increased security measures have affected the flow of people and vehicles across the border, impacting Venezuelans living in Colombian border cities such as Cúcuta.
