Magnitude 6.4 Earthquake Hits Southern Taiwan Near Chiayi, 6 Weak Intensity Felt

A magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck southern Taiwan on Tuesday, with its epicenter located 37.9 km southeast of Chiayi County Hall, approximately 80 km from Tainan. The earthquake occurred at 00:17 local time and had a depth of 9.7 kilometers. The strongest shaking was felt in Chiayi County with an intensity of 6 weak. Other affected areas included Tainan, Kaohsiung, and several other counties and cities across Taiwan, experiencing varying levels of intensity. The European Mediterranean Seismological Centre and Taiwan's weather administration confirmed the event, which was also reported by the China Earthquake Networks Center with a slightly different magnitude of 6.2 and a depth of 14 kilometers.
