BlackRock Boosts Bitcoin Holdings with $661.9 Million Purchase of 6,470 BTC for IBIT ETF

BlackRock Inc. has significantly increased its Bitcoin holdings through its iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT), purchasing approximately 6,470 Bitcoin valued at $661.9 million on January 21, 2025. This acquisition marks a notable investment in the cryptocurrency, reflecting growing institutional interest. The trading volume for BlackRock's IBIT ETF reached $3.5 billion on the same day, indicating strong market activity. Additionally, Bitcoin ETFs in the U.S. now hold over 1.1 million BTC, representing about 5.7% of the total Bitcoin supply. The total assets under management (AUM) for U.S. Bitcoin ETFs stood at $125.95 billion as of January 21, closely approaching the AUM of U.S. Gold ETFs, which is at $128.91 billion. Meanwhile, Monochrome Bitcoin ETF (IBTC) also reported its AUM on the same date, and BlackRock made another purchase of 6,240 Bitcoin worth $56.31 million.
