The facility, known as the Kristall Plant, supplied fuel to the Engels-2 military airfield, which is used by Russian strategic aviation. The attack resulted in the deaths of two firefighters and injuries to another during efforts to extinguish the blaze. The fire persisted for over 14 hours, with new explosions reported, and a state of emergency was declared in the area.
