24-Year-Old Greeshma Sentenced to Death by Kerala Court for Poisoning 23-Year-Old Sharon Raj with Pesticide, Uncle Gets 3 Years

In a landmark judgment, the Neyyattinkara Additional Sessions Court in Kerala has sentenced Greeshma, a 24-year-old woman, to death for the murder of her 23-year-old boyfriend, Sharon Raj. The court found Greeshma guilty of poisoning Sharon with a pesticide-laced ayurvedic decoction on October 14, 2022, leading to his death 11 days later due to multiple organ failure. Greeshma's uncle, Nirmalakumaran Nair, was sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment for his role in destroying evidence, while Greeshma's mother was acquitted due to lack of evidence. Greeshma also received 10 years under section 364 IPC and 5 years under section 201 IPC. The court highlighted the premeditated nature of the crime, noting that Greeshma had planned the murder to end her relationship with Sharon, as she was engaged to another man. The judgment emphasized the betrayal of trust and dismissed Greeshma's claims of mental pressure and physical abuse by Sharon, citing a lack of evidence. The court noted 48 pieces of circumstantial evidence against Greeshma, including a juice challenge video where she attempted to poison Sharon with paracetamol-laced juice, and her use of paraquat pesticide in the fatal poisoning.
