Meta to Invest Up to $65B in 2025 Capex, Building Massive Data Center for AI Expansion

Meta Platforms Inc. CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that the company plans to invest $60 billion to $65 billion in capital expenditures in 2025, significantly higher than the previous estimate of $51.3 billion and up from the $38-40 billion estimated for 2024, representing a 50% to 70% year-over-year increase. The investment will focus on expanding the company's artificial intelligence capabilities, including significantly growing Meta's AI teams. Zuckerberg also revealed that Meta is building a massive 2GW+ data center, large enough to cover a significant part of Manhattan. By the end of 2025, Meta expects to bring online approximately 1GW of compute power and possess more than 1.3 million GPUs. Zuckerberg stated, "This will be a defining year for AI," with expectations that Meta AI will become the leading assistant serving over 1 billion people, and that Llama 4 will become the leading state-of-the-art model. The company plans to continue investing in AI advancements in the years ahead.
