Trump Deputizes Agencies, Revokes Parole for 1.5 Million Migrants in Deportation Crackdown
Jan 24, 2025, 03:58 PM
President Donald Trump's administration is intensifying immigration enforcement by expanding deportation efforts and revoking temporary protections granted under the previous administration. Acting Department of Homeland Security Secretary Benjamine Huffman issued a directive authorizing agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the U.S. Marshals Service to arrest undocumented immigrants, effectively adding nearly 10,000 agents to assist with deportations. Additionally, the administration is deputizing state and local law enforcement to help Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with immigration enforcement and detention efforts. The administration is also empowering federal immigration officials to revoke the legal status of an estimated 1.5 million migrants who were allowed into the United States temporarily under Biden-era programs, including those from Cuba, Haiti, and Ukraine. Programs such as the CBP One app and Uniting for Ukraine have been paused. According to internal Department of Homeland Security memos obtained by media outlets, ICE officers now have the authority to review and terminate parole statuses, accelerating the removal of these individuals. The moves reflect President Trump's commitment to stricter immigration policies and mass deportations.
