Pope Francis Receives Zero-Emission Popemobile from Mercedes-Benz for 2025 Jubilee
Dec 5, 2024, 12:25 AM
Pope Francis has received his first all-electric 'Popemobile' from Mercedes-Benz, marking a significant step in the Vatican's commitment to environmental sustainability. The vehicle, a modified version of the company's G-Class mid-size luxury SUV, is in classic pearl-white and has been developed in close cooperation with the Vatican to meet the specific needs of the pontiff. This electric Popemobile, powered by four electric motors producing 579 hp and 859 lb-ft of torque, can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 4.6 seconds. It is designed to allow the Pope to greet pilgrims at St. Peter’s Square and is expected to make its debut during the 2025 Jubilee. The move aligns with the Papacy's climate action theme, emphasizing zero-emission transportation.
