Hamas and Fatah Agree on Egyptian-Mediated Committee to Govern Gaza, Paving Way for Ceasefire
Dec 3, 2024, 06:26 AM
Delegations from Hamas and Fatah met with Egyptian officials in Cairo, including Maj. Gen. Hassan Rashad, head of the General Intelligence Service (GIS), to discuss a new Egyptian ceasefire proposal and the management of the Gaza Strip after the ongoing war. The talks, which also involved discussions with Islamic Jihad, aim to explore an Egyptian-mediated proposal to form an independent joint committee of 10 to 15 qualified individuals to administer Gaza under the control of the Palestinian Authority post-war. Both parties have reportedly agreed on the formation of this committee, which is seen as a significant step that paves the way towards declaring a ceasefire. The Egyptian Foreign Minister stated that the talks are intended to enable the Palestinian Authority to take full control after the end of the Israeli occupation.
