France Confirms First Case of New Clade 1b Mpox Variant in Brittany

France's Ministry of Health announced on Monday evening that the first case of the new clade 1b variant of the mpox virus (monkeypox) has been identified in the country. The patient, a woman, is being treated at the University Hospital Center in Rennes, Brittany. The detection of this variant, anticipated since the summer, follows cases already reported in Sweden, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
