Mumbai Police Arrest Bangladeshi Suspect, Granted 5-Day Custody, for Stabbing Saif Ali Khan 6 Times
Jan 19, 2025, 08:47 AM
Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, a 30-year-old man suspected to be a Bangladeshi national, has been arrested by Mumbai Police for allegedly stabbing Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan at his residence in Mumbai. The attack, which occurred during an attempted burglary on January 16, 2025, involved Shehzad using a knife to stab Khan six times. Shehzad, who reportedly entered India illegally and changed his name to Vijay Das, was apprehended after a search operation that utilized CCTV footage and facial recognition technology. Khan, who sustained multiple stab wounds, underwent surgery and is now out of danger. The suspect has been granted a 5-day police custody. The suspect's lawyer has contested the police's claim of Shehzad's Bangladeshi origin, asserting a lack of evidence and stating that Shehzad has been living in Mumbai for over seven years with his family.
