Dec 9, 2024, 12:08 PM
An explosion at an ENI fuel depot in Calenzano, near Florence, Italy, on Monday resulted in at least two deaths, nine injuries, and three missing persons. The incident occurred during the loading of tankers, causing a large fire that has since been extinguished and a plume of smoke visible from nearby areas. Some of the injured sustained concussions from the blast's air displacement. Emergency services, including firefighters and medical personnel, responded to the scene. Traffic disruptions followed, with highway exits closed and train services suspended. Residents were advised to keep windows closed and avoid the area. Italian authorities are investigating the cause of the explosion, and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed condolences for the victims.
