Russia's Drone Offensive Escalates in Ukraine as Kyiv Develops 1,800 km Range Kamikaze Drones and Plans Drone Swarms
Dec 2, 2024, 07:28 AM
Russia's deployment of attack drones has enabled a strategic bombing offensive in Ukraine, allowing for operations without risking aircrew. This development comes amid intensified military pressure on the ground. In response, Ukraine is increasingly relying on advanced military technologies, including uncrewed ground vehicles and AI-powered targeting drones, as it adapts to the ongoing trench warfare that has persisted for nearly three years since the onset of the invasion. Ukrainian Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov highlighted that Ukraine often surpasses Russia in nightly drone launches by utilizing decoy drones. He also confirmed that Ukraine operates drones with a range of 1,800 kilometers and is in the process of developing interceptor drones aimed at countering Russian drones, such as the Shahed. The introduction of drone swarms is anticipated in 2025, which could further enhance Ukraine's aerial capabilities.
