Cowboys owner Jerry Jones described the hire as a significant risk due to Schottenheimer's lack of head coaching experience. Despite this, Jones expressed confidence in Schottenheimer's ability, citing his familiarity with the Cowboys organization. Schottenheimer, the son of legendary coach Marty Schottenheimer, became emotional discussing his father and expressed his readiness for the role. He signed a 4-year deal and shared his goal to lead the team to a Super Bowl victory, a goal he shared with his mother upon receiving the job. Schottenheimer emphasized his strong relationship with quarterback Dak Prescott, who attended the press conference, stating that Prescott would play elite-level football and lead the team to championships under his guidance. The Cowboys are also in the process of interviewing candidates for offensive and defensive coordinator positions.
