Smuggling Tunnel Found Under Río Bravo, Connecting Ciudad Juárez to El Paso Near Gate 28

Authorities from the United States and Mexico have uncovered a sophisticated smuggling tunnel running beneath the US-Mexico border, connecting Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, to El Paso, Texas. The tunnel, located near Gate 28 of the border wall and under the Río Bravo, was equipped with lighting, ventilation, wood supports, and a reinforced structure. It measured approximately six feet tall and four feet wide. Reportedly used for human trafficking, including the smuggling of Venezuelan women, as well as for drugs and other illicit goods, the tunnel was connected to the drainage system. The discovery was made during a joint operation involving local, state, and federal agencies from both countries, following an anonymous tip. Tools such as shovels, axes, and radios were found at the site, along with black bags containing clothing. The tunnel has since been sealed, and investigations are ongoing to determine its origins and those responsible for its construction.
