Seven San Antonio Officers Shot Responding to Suicide Call in Stone Oak, Suspect Found Dead
Jan 23, 2025, 04:13 AM
Seven San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) officers were shot on Wednesday evening while responding to a call about a 'suicide in progress' at the Sonterra Heights apartment complex in the Stone Oak area of San Antonio, Texas. The incident began around 8:30 p.m. when a family member reported the situation. The suspect, a man in his 40s who was out on bond for recent arrests including assault and DWI, opened fire on the arriving officers. Four officers were initially reported to have been shot with non-life-threatening injuries, including one shot in the upper torso and another in the lower extremities. The suspect barricaded himself inside an apartment, leading to a standoff that lasted several hours. Eventually, SWAT officers entered the apartment and found the suspect dead, though it remains unclear whether his death was self-inflicted or due to police action. The officers involved have between four and eight years of experience with the department.
