Seven San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) officers were shot while responding to a call for a 'suicide in progress' at the Sonterra Heights apartment complex in Stone Oak, San Antonio, Texas. The incident began around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, with the first officer shot upon arrival, followed by six more officers. The suspect, a male in his 40s with a prior criminal record including two assault charges and one DWI, barricaded himself inside an apartment for several hours. SWAT team involvement was necessary, and a resident, Joseph Loredo, reported hearing gunfire and seeing an injured officer. The standoff ended when SWAT officers found the suspect dead from a gunshot wound, though it remains unclear whether it was self-inflicted or from police action. All seven officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
