Former Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao and Boyfriend Andre Jones Indicted in FBI Corruption Probe Following 60% Recall Vote

Former Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao and her boyfriend Andre Jones have been criminally indicted by a federal grand jury following an FBI corruption investigation. The indictments come two months after Thao was recalled from office by more than 60% of voters in a November election. The FBI had previously raided Thao's home in June and properties linked to the Duong family, owners of California Waste Solutions, a recycling company contracted with Oakland. The Duong family has been accused of making illicit campaign donations to Thao and other politicians. Thao has maintained her innocence since the raids, asserting that she had done nothing wrong. The charges against Thao and Jones are expected to be announced in a joint press conference involving the FBI, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and the IRS Criminal Investigations Unit.
