Apple Revises EU Tech Fee Policy, Exempts Small Developers
May 2, 2024, 03:01 PM
Apple has announced adjustments to its Core Technology Fee policy in the EU, responding to feedback from developers. The company now exempts developers of free apps and offers a three-year 'free on-ramp' for small developers with annual global revenues of less than €10 million. Additionally, Apple will extend the fee to iPadOS apps starting in autumn. The revisions aim to prevent small or unexpectedly viral apps from facing excessive fees, amidst criticism that the fee structure was anticompetitive and potentially in violation of EU law.
