Apple Updates Core Technology Fee, Extends to iPadOS with Caps for Small Developers
May 2, 2024, 04:05 PM
Apple has announced changes to its Core Technology Fee (CTF), extending it to iPadOS apps starting in autumn. The updated policy introduces a capped fee for small developers with less than EUR 10 million in global annual revenues. Additionally, Apple is implementing a three-year ramp-up period where the CTF rate will vary depending on the app's revenue. This adjustment aims to support smaller developers, especially if their apps gain widespread popularity, by potentially reducing their fees. Furthermore, under the new rules, downloads of the same app on both iOS and iPadOS will be counted as a single download for the purposes of the CTF, which could further decrease the financial burden on developers.
