Senate Introduces TAKE IT DOWN Act to Combat AI-Generated Deepfake Porn, Mandating Removal Within 48 Hours
Jun 18, 2024, 04:29 PM
A new Senate bill, the TAKE IT DOWN Act, has been introduced to combat the proliferation of AI-generated deepfake porn. Sponsored by Sen. Ted Cruz and supported by a bipartisan group of lawmakers, including Sen. Todd Young, the legislation mandates that social media companies remove nonconsensual deepfake images within 48 hours of a victim's request. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) will enforce this rule to protect victims, particularly young women, from harmful deepfakes. The bill aims to hold Big Tech accountable for quickly removing such exploitative content, including revenge porn, providing a significant step forward in protecting individuals from digital exploitation.
