Intel Wins EU Antitrust Case, €1.06 Billion ($1.45 Billion) Fine Annulled
Oct 24, 2024, 09:02 AM
Intel Corporation has secured a significant victory in a long-running antitrust case against the European Union. The European Court of Justice ruled in favor of Intel, annulling a €1.06 billion ($1.45 billion) fine imposed by the European Commission in 2009. The case, which spanned nearly two decades, centered on allegations that Intel had abused its dominant market position by offering rebates to PC makers such as Dell, Hewlett-Packard, NEC, and Lenovo. This ruling marks a notable defeat for EU regulators and highlights the protracted nature of antitrust litigation in Europe. Mario Draghi had previously criticized the case. Despite this win, Intel still faces a €376.36 million fine in a related case.
