US Lawmakers Introduce Chip EQUIP Act to Bar CHIPS Act Winners from Using Chinese Equipment

US lawmakers have introduced a new bipartisan bill aimed at preventing companies that receive federal funding under the CHIPS Act from purchasing Chinese-made semiconductor equipment. The bill, known as the Chip EQUIP Act, seeks to bolster national security by ensuring that U.S. semiconductor tools remain the world’s best. The legislation was introduced by Senators Mark Kelly and Marsha Blackburn, and Representatives Frank Lucas and Zoe Lofgren, who introduced the House version. So far, ten companies, including Intel, TSMC, Samsung, and Micron, have received preliminary CHIPS Act awards.
