Iran Executes Over 1,000 in 2024, Including 34 Women, 7 Juveniles, 119 Baluch; 12 More in 2025
Jan 3, 2025, 12:29 PM
Iran executed over 1,000 prisoners in 2024, marking the highest number of executions in the country in 30 years, according to a report by the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI). The executions took place across 86 prisons in 31 provinces, with a significant increase in the pace of executions as the regime faced mounting crises. Nearly 70% of these executions occurred after the election of President Masoud Pezeshkian in late July, with 47% taking place in the fourth quarter of the year. The executed prisoners included 34 women, 7 juvenile offenders, and 119 individuals from the Baluch minority. On the first day of 2025, at least 12 more prisoners were executed in Qezelhessar, Bandar Abbas, Yasuj, and Malayer prisons. Over half of the victims (502 prisoners) were executed on drug-related charges. Maryam Rajavi, president-elect of the NCRI, stated that these executions represent a desperate attempt by the regime to suppress an uprising demanding its overthrow, yet they have only strengthened the resolve of Iran's youth to topple the religious dictatorship.
