Green Beret with PTSD Dies in New Year's Day Cybertruck Explosion at Trump Hotel, Used ChatGPT to Plan Attack
Jan 7, 2025, 09:16 PM
On New Year's Day, 37-year-old decorated U.S. Army Green Beret Matthew Livelsberger died in a Tesla Cybertruck explosion outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas. Authorities believe he committed suicide and suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression, having sought mental health treatment multiple times from August to December. Investigators found a six-page manifesto on his phone and revealed that he used ChatGPT to plan the attack, researching explosives, ammunition velocity, and fireworks laws. The explosion involved gas canisters, fireworks, racing fuel, and bird shot. Livelsberger had originally planned an attack at the Grand Canyon but diverted to Las Vegas. His ex-girlfriend, Alicia Arritt, who was in contact with him in his final days and witnessed his final moments, has spoken about his mental health struggles, including pain and exhaustion after his deployment in Afghanistan and graphic encounters replaying in his head. She expressed regret over not being able to help him and was interviewed by the FBI. Livelsberger was known as 'The Candy Man' during his deployment for handing out toys and crayons to Afghan children. He mentioned being 'super high' on weed and booze while planning the explosion. Police and military officials continue to investigate the incident.
