Two Men, Including Massachusetts Resident, Charged in Iran Drone Attack That Killed 3 US Troops in Jordan
Dec 18, 2024, 04:39 PM
The US Justice Department announced on Monday, December 17, 2024, that two men have been charged with exporting sensitive technology to Iran that was used in a drone attack on January 28 at a US military base known as Tower 22 in Jordan. The attack killed three American service members—Sergeant William Jerome Rivers and others—and injured 47 others. Both men, Mahdi Mohammad Sadeghi, a dual US-Iranian citizen and resident of Natick, Massachusetts, and Mohammad Abedini, founder of an Iranian drone company, have been arrested. The Department of Justice alleges that the men conspired to send sensitive US-made navigation systems to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which were then used in military drones by Iran-backed militants.
