VisitPutin Approves Record $145 Billion Russian Defense Budget, 32.5% of 2025 Spending
Dec 1, 2024, 11:29 AM
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law approving the federal budget for 2025-2027, which includes record-high military spending. For 2025, defense allocations amount to 13.5 trillion rubles ($145 billion or €137 billion), representing 32.5% of the total budget. This marks a significant increase from 28.3% in the previous year. The defense budget surpasses spending on education, healthcare, social policy, and the national economy combined. Military spending also accounts for 6.3% of Russia's GDP, the highest in its post-Soviet history. The budget reflects Moscow's focus on sustaining its military efforts, particularly amid the ongoing war in Ukraine. Additionally, this budget is described as the most secret in Russia's post-Soviet history.
