EU May Include SpaceX, Neuralink Revenue in X Fines Under DSA
Oct 17, 2024, 09:48 AM
The European Union has warned X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk, that it may calculate potential fines by including revenue from Musk's other companies, such as SpaceX, Neuralink, xAI, and The Boring Company. Under the Digital Services Act (DSA), the EU can impose fines of up to 6% of a company's global annual revenue for violations of content moderation rules, including failing to address disinformation. Including revenue from Musk's broader business empire could significantly increase the potential penalty for X if it breaches the DSA. The Commission, which enforces DSA rules on major platforms, already suspects X of several compliance breaches and has ongoing investigations that could lead to substantial fines.
