Kazakhstan Sends Embraer 190 Black Boxes to Brazil After Crash Kills 38, Suspected Russian Fire
Dec 29, 2024, 09:28 PM
Kazakhstan has decided to send the black boxes from the crashed Azerbaijan Airlines Embraer 190 to Brazil for investigation. The plane, which was en route from Baku to Grozny and carrying 67 people, crashed near Aktau in Kazakhstan, resulting in 38 fatalities and 29 survivors. The decision to send the black boxes to Brazil was made by the Kazakh Ministry of Transport, following the crash on December 25. The black boxes will be analyzed at the Brazilian Center for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (CENIPA), which has a certified lab, as Brazil is the manufacturer of the Embraer aircraft. This move aligns with the Chicago Convention's Annex 13, which Kazakhstan ratified in 1992. The crash is suspected to have been caused by Russian anti-aircraft fire, with Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev accusing Russia of shooting down the plane and demanding an apology and compensation.
