Jon and Carie Hallford, owners of the Return to Nature Funeral Home in Penrose, Colorado, have pleaded guilty to state charges of corpse abuse. The couple was accused of storing 190 decaying bodies in a room-temperature building and providing grieving families with fake ashes. The plea was entered on Friday, November 22, 2024, as aggrieved families watched in court. Earlier in October, the Hallfords had also pleaded guilty to federal charges including corpse abuse, theft, money laundering, and forgery.
