Judge Allows 13-Year-Old's Rape Allegations Against Jay-Z and Diddy to Proceed Anonymously After MTV Awards After-Party
Dec 27, 2024, 07:00 AM
A woman who alleges she was raped by Sean 'Diddy' Combs and Jay-Z when she was 13 years old can proceed with her lawsuit against the rap moguls anonymously, at least for now, a federal judge has ruled. The lawsuit claims the assault occurred after the MTV Video Music Awards in 2000 at an after-party. U.S. District Judge Analisa Torres criticized Jay-Z's attorney, Alex Spiro, for his aggressive legal tactics, describing them as 'inappropriate, a waste of judicial resources, and a tactic unlikely to benefit his client.' The judge's ruling allows the plaintiff, identified as Jane Doe, to maintain her anonymity during the early stages of the litigation, although she may be required to reveal her identity at a later date. Both Combs and Jay-Z have denied the allegations. Combs is currently in jail awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges, while Jay-Z's legal team had sought to dismiss the case, citing inconsistencies in the accuser's story, which were admitted in an NBC News interview.
