Japanese Researchers Achieve World Record 402 Tbps (402,000 Gbps) Internet Speed
Jul 1, 2024, 07:00 PM
Japanese researchers have set a new world record for internet speed by achieving 402 terabits per second using commercially available optical fiber. This groundbreaking speed, which is 1.6 million times faster than the average US broadband speed, was accomplished with a 37.6 THz optical bandwidth. The speed, equivalent to 420,000,000 Mbps or 402,000 Gbps, is fast enough to download Baldur's Gate 3 in less than four milliseconds or 12,500 movies in a second. This achievement highlights the significant growth in demand for bandwidth as technology advances from texts to images and now to videos.
