Fergani Space Launches First Satellite FGN-100-d1 into Orbit as Part of SpaceX's Transporter-12 Mission, Aiming for Turkish GPS with 100 Satellites in 5 Years
Jan 14, 2025, 09:22 PM
Fergani Space, a Turkish company founded by Selçuk Bayraktar, chairman of Baykar, has successfully launched its first satellite, FGN-100-d1, into orbit. The satellite was deployed as part of SpaceX's Transporter-12 mission, which lifted off from Vandenberg Space Force Base in the United States. The launch included a total of 131 payloads, encompassing cube satellites, microsatellites, and orbital transfer vehicles. FGN-100-d1 marks the beginning of Fergani Space's initiative to build a global positioning system using a constellation of satellites, aiming to deploy 100 satellites within five years to create a Turkish GPS in the Small-GEO category. The launch was live-streamed on SpaceX's X account, and the satellite's hydrogen peroxide space engine had successfully undergone an ignition test in May of the previous year. Industry Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacır highlighted the event as a step towards strengthening Turkey's space ecosystem in line with the National Space Program's goals. Alongside Fergani Space's satellite, the mission also carried satellites from another Turkish space firm, Plan-S.
