Following the reported takeover of Damascus by militants, the Iranian embassy in Syria has been stormed and ransacked by Syrian rebels. On December 8, 2024, Iranian state media, including Press TV, reported that the embassy was attacked by armed groups after rebels captured Damascus. Footage released by Al Arabiya and circulated on social media shows Syrian opposition forces entering the embassy, vandalizing and looting the premises, with broken windows and damaged interiors. Iranian Ambassador Hossein Akbari had earlier stated that the embassy in Damascus was still operational despite regional tensions.
