WHO Prequalifies First Hepatitis C Self-Test on Wednesday, Signs Framework Agreement with EIB
Jul 11, 2024, 08:54 AM
The World Health Organization (WHO) announced on Wednesday that it has prequalified the first self-test for the hepatitis C virus (HCV), marking a significant step towards the global elimination of the virus. This milestone is expected to expand access to testing and diagnosis, which is crucial for the prevention, detection, and treatment of hepatitis C. The self-test aims to facilitate early diagnosis and treatment, contributing to the broader goal of total elimination of the viral infection. Additionally, WHO has signed its first framework agreement with the European Investment Bank (EIB) to support primary healthcare investments in low and middle-income countries. This partnership is part of WHO's strategy to promote health for all and enhance global health infrastructure. Furthermore, WHO's first Investment Round has been discussed with the WHO Foundation Board to ensure its success.
