14 Attorneys General Sue TikTok Over Harmful, Addictive Features Impacting Children's Mental Health
Oct 8, 2024, 03:30 PM
A bipartisan group of 14 attorneys general from 13 states and the District of Columbia have filed lawsuits against TikTok, alleging that the popular social media platform is harmful to children's mental health. The lawsuits claim that TikTok's features are designed to be addictive, leading to issues such as anxiety, sleep loss, and body image problems among young users. The complaints also accuse TikTok of misleading the public about the safety of its platform and collecting data from children without proper consent. D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb referred to TikTok as "digital nicotine" and mentioned concerns about an "illegal virtual economy."
