Apple Inc. has agreed to pay $95 million to settle a class action lawsuit alleging that its Siri voice assistant illegally collected and stored user data without consent. The lawsuit claimed that Siri was activated without user permission, leading to the recording of private conversations which were allegedly shared with advertisers. Apple has denied these allegations, stating that it has never used Siri data for marketing purposes, nor sold it to any third parties. The company emphasized its commitment to user privacy, noting that Siri processes most requests directly on the user's device to minimize data collection. Apple also clarified that it does not retain audio recordings of Siri interactions unless users opt in to help improve Siri, and even then, the recordings are used solely for that purpose. Affected customers may receive up to $20 per Siri-enabled device as part of the settlement.
