Japan Introduces 10-Year Visa for Affluent Chinese, Extends Group Tourist Stay

Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya announced in Beijing on December 25 a series of visa relaxation measures for Chinese tourists. The measures include the introduction of a new 10-year multiple-entry tourist visa aimed at affluent Chinese, doubling the maximum length of stay for group tourists from 15 to 30 days, and exempting those aged 65 and older from submitting proof of employment when applying for a visa. These steps are intended to stimulate consumption and enhance economic and people-to-people exchanges between Japan and China. The visa relaxation was discussed during a high-level dialogue on promoting Japan-China cultural and people-to-people exchanges, attended by Iwaya and his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi.
