According to findings from two Democratic lawmakers, data brokers purchase this information for minimal amounts, often described as nickels, dimes, and pennies. The data, which includes driving behavior and location, is then scored for risk and sold to insurance companies. Senators have raised alarms about this practice, emphasizing the need for an investigation. General Motors is among the companies involved, with its connected vehicles collecting and sharing data anonymously with brokers. The practice was disclosed in a letter sent to the FTC on Wednesday.
