BYD to Launch Next-Gen Blade Battery in 2025 to Extend Range and Battery Life
Nov 25, 2024, 08:45 AM
BYD, the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, announced plans to launch a new generation of blade batteries in 2025. These next-generation blade batteries are expected to extend vehicle range and battery life. The announcement was made by a BYD executive at the COP29 conference. BYD initially released the world's first blade battery in March 2020. Additionally, BYD is cooperating with CAS Shenzhen on solid-state battery (SSB) and lithium-ion battery (LIB) materials. Two of BYD's SSB patents were publicized this week, with one applied for in 2022. Other companies like CATL and HW are also in the process of developing SSB patents. Further testing, validation, scaling, and cost considerations are ongoing for SSB integration into EVs.
