OpenAI has appointed Dr. Aaron 'Ronnie' Chatterji as its first Chief Economist on October 22, 2024. Dr. Chatterji, a Duke University professor and former White House economic advisor, managed the $52 billion CHIPS program and served on President Obama's Council of Economic Advisers and as Chief Economist at the Commerce Department under President Biden. In his new role, he will lead research into how AI affects jobs and the economy, including global economic impacts. The appointment was reported by NYT and TechCrunch. Additionally, OpenAI has hired Scott Schools, former Associate Deputy Attorney General and Uber's compliance head, as their new Chief Compliance Officer to oversee legal requirements and ethics.
