Germany Allocates €60 Million for Syrian Education and Women's Rights via UN and NGOs
Dec 30, 2024, 12:18 PM
Germany has announced a €60 million aid package for Syria, focusing on education, women's rights, and other humanitarian efforts following the overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad. The German Development Minister, Svenja Schulze, highlighted the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Syria, exacerbated by nearly 14 years of civil war. The aid will be channeled exclusively through the United Nations and non-governmental organizations, bypassing the new Syrian government. The projects aim to support education, income generation, and civil society, with specific allocations including €25 million to UNICEF for school renovations and psychosocial support for children, and €19 million to the UNDP for short-term employment opportunities for internally displaced Syrians.
